Number of Seniors Hospitalized Due to Opioids Triples

This article from August of this year remains as pertinent as ever. Young adults are not the only ones at risk from opioid abuse. It can affect the elderly as well. According to the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality data showed that in 2005, 467 seniors out of every 100,000 spent time in the hospital due to opioids. In 2015, the rate had increased to 1,505.

This is a tough business to be in or a part of, because it is so personal a service. I was referred to CK by a friend and found the style of service to be approachable and mom and pops friendly as a franchise. Initially I used them as a back up for my stepfathers round the clock care. As he needed less and less, I used them for evening care and referred a private caregiver there to be on staff. I thought all was well when less than two weeks from years end, they wanted to release us from services because of the caregivers high turnover. This came out of the blue and I was able to persuade the owner to reconsider by keeping us on half time with a regular caregiver. Whew! What a relief that they were able to compromise and save my step pa and me as primary care advocate and manager, the blood sweat and tears of contracting another organization. Everyone is very friendly in admin. The caregivers were hit or miss, hence the turnover, but we are very happy with our current daytime ‘keeper’ as Jim terms the caregivers. 🙏thank you Jim Rudolph and team for hanging in with this process and us.

They are so easy to work with. I travel with my job and my wife needs a little help. They are there for her when I can’t be. Sometimes it’s just the conversation that makes a difference in her day. Sometimes it’s having someone there if she needs help getting in and out of the shower. They are there to take her to an appointment, pick up medication or food or a drive somewhere. They help her get out into the world not trapped in the house. She always says how sweet and kind Sophia is. We are blessed to have them here for us.Dan and Lisa Martin

Comfort Keepers has made it possible to stay in my home and live independently. Comfort Keepers goes above and beyond to provide both the client and caregiver with the best experience possible. I worked as a caregiver for Comfort Keepers for a year during my undergraduate career. I received a comprehensive training experience and clear expectations for my position. I shadowed other caregivers in the field until I was certain that I was ready to take care of clients on my own. The administrative staff at Comfort Keepers are transparent and communicative with clients and do their best to ensure client satisfaction is exceeded. Comfort Keepers (CK) has provided in-home care for my husband who has advancing Parkinson's Disease for the past 3 1/2 years. Their flexible, thoughtful service has allowed my husband to remain at home with personalized care while I work. CK administrative staff (Jim, Mike and Colleen) communicate on a regular basis to adjust schedules and caregivers as needed; they always tried to meet my needs, and mostly succeeded. The CK caregivers have been outstanding; these are warmhearted professionals who developed a personal relationship with my husband. They strive to help out in the home without being asked. If you are thinking or wondering more about in-home care for you or your loved one, Comfort Keepers is your agency to choose. From the office staff, caregivers, and the owner, everyone gives it their all at all times, no matter what.I have never witnessed a better company that cares and supports their staff. I selected Comfort Keepers over others because we were advised they were the best in the area. I think the caregivers are very sincere and dependable. They can make decisions and recommendations in a very reasonable way. We have appreciated their participation in our home life. They take responsibility. They are thoughtful and considerate about what they do. My wife needs bedside cares and they are excellent at it. They also do homemaking services/housework. They prepare meals which is very important. The service is indispensable. .The company is mature in its judgments. I have enjoyed their communication and contact over the years. When they have to come over here to work through a problem, they seem to have a good sense of things. I think they have an intelligent insight into family problems and household issues.

Comfort Keepers has such an excellent reputation in southern Wisconsin that I did not hesitate to choose them to care for my mother, who has Alzheimer’s and requires round-the-clock care here in my home. 1. They have worked diligently with me to find the right caregiving team for my mother. Dementia patients can be irrationally uncooperative sometimes, and when Mom just didn’t get along with a caregiver, they listened carefully to my feedback and sent new aides until we found the ones Mom could work with. 2. When I have needed someone at the last minute, beyond our regular schedule, they have almost always been able to comply, thanks to their large and flexible staff. 3. When I was having trouble getting Mom’s long-term care insurance company to pay out, their consultants reviewed the policy (free of charge!), helped me understand what Mom was owed, and assisted in my communication with the company. Thanks to their expert advice, which included pointing me to the relevant regulatory agencies, we have recovered 100% of the coverage we were owed. 4. When Mom’s condition takes another downhill turn, they ensure her caregivers keep up with the changes. For example, their staff nurse came to my home 4 times in a single week recently, free of charge, to ensure all Mom’s caregivers knew how to use the new pneumatic lift safely. 5. They encourage their staff to get ongoing training. One of Mom’s caregivers recently went through an Alzheimer’s certification training course, and it has been beneficial for all of us. One of my family members owns a caregiving agency in another town, and so I know how difficult it can be to run an effective agency. Madison is lucky to have such a top-notch agency available for in-home care. I highly recommend Comfort Keepers.

Representative assured me that they could cover the shifts to care for a family member. After one month they said they could no longer continue. They said my aunt was combative and troublesome. They also sent a caregiver that NO-ONE , including my Aunt liked. One garegiver told a family friend that she couldn't lift my aunt as she had a bad back. She then told Comfort Keepers that she injured her back trying to get my aunt back into bed. She went out on work comp. and the Owner of the Company brought that up to me as another reason to drop service. I was also told that several caregivers did not want to return due to issues with my Aunt. MY Aunt is 96, cannot walk and cannot even lift a coffe mug. This company is unprofessional! I have shared this situation with our Hospice agency and other caregiving Agencies and they are shocked!

We have an elderly parent who is currently living independently in her own apartment. We have concerns that she may one day need help with personal care or housekeeping, however we had no idea what kinds of services were available. We had heard that Comfort Keepers was one of the best providers in the area and so we made one phone call to learn more. Diane from Comfort Keepers came out to the apartment and explained the kinds of services they provide and the cost. She was knowledgeable, patient, and understanding and when she left we were much more comfortable knowing that we could provide affordable assistance as needed without having to move to a higher cost facility. When the time comes, we'll call Comfort Keepers.

Our experience with Comfort Keepers has been very satisfying. We called Comfort Keepers for help in July 2007 and still depend on them. The two ladies assigned to us were very professional, pleasant and helpful with the chores of living. My husband has memory problems and had a severe case of shingles while I was hospitalized with hip replacement surgery.
